Announcing the 2018-19 Denver Jazz Club Youth All-Star Auditions!

THE DJC YOUTH ALL-STARS are looking for dedicated high school clarinet, tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, and guitar or banjo players!

The audition music and recording have been posted at: http://www.bandresourcesunlimited.com/downloads/

WHEN WILL AUDITIONS TAKE PLACE? Sunday (6:30-9pm), March 25th, and Sunday, April 8th (6:30-9pm), at Denver Percussion (7399 S. Tucson Way, Suite B2, Centennial).

WHAT EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED? Intermediate to advanced jazz experience is preferred.

MONTHLY CLINICIANS: Retired UC-Denver Music Professor Bill Clark, tuba player/leader of the Queen City Jazz Band, is a regular clinician. Additional professional jazz musicians do clinics from time to time as well.

REHEARSALS: Weekly rehearsals take place at Denver Percussion, from 6:30 until 9:00 pm, each Sunday. Some rehearsals will take place earlier on Sundays, when necessary.

PERFORMANCE GIGS? We feature our band during each monthly Denver Jazz Club session, professional jazz festivals, and performance gigs throughout the area. The Youth All-Stars will be performing at the 2018 Evergreen, Denver Vintage, and Sacramento, California Hot Jazz Jubilee Festivals!

SCHOOL CONFLICTS? No performances or rehearsals conflict with school activities.

COST: Each selected student will be required to become a member of the Denver Jazz Club ($10 yearly fee). The monthly dues (4 weekly sessions) run $140, and are payable at the start of each month. Due to the invitation to perform in the 2018 Sacramento, California Hot Jazz Jubilee, over Labor Day Weekend (8/31/18-9/3/18), each selected student will need to pay their $274 airfare by April 30th so the plane tickets can be ordered at this low fare. The remaining balance of the trip ($331) will be prorated monthly, through July (meals and hotel).

WILL PAID GIGS REDUCE FUTURE TRIP COSTS? Starting on August 1st, any money the band is paid will go towards future trip expenses.

Donate to EHS Instrumental Music!

You can now donate to the EHS Instrumental Music Program through PayPal!

Also consider donating to our two winter extracurrucular ensembles:

  • Indoor Percussion (or iPerc, for short) gives students a performance outlet that differs from anything else they do throughout the year. It offers them a chance at percussion oriented theatrical experiences that they can own. This has proven to work wonders in building morale and a positive work ethic, not to mention increasing the number of interested students in the percussion program in general.

  • Winter Guard is an indoor color guard activity involving synchronized dance with visual guard equipment to recorded music. Our Winter Guard performs at judged competitions culminating in State Championships in April.

All donations are tax deductable!
